Healthy Eating Day
Healthy eating day was an initiative set up by the European Commission in 2007 to increase awareness of the European obesity problem, and how children can reduce their intake of fatty foods, and increase their five a day fruit and veg.
Five a day fruit and veg
The recommended guidelines state we must eat at least five portions of fruit and veg a day. What's a 'portion'? About the size of a handful. So, a piece of fruit at breakfast time, one for lunch, one vegetable for lunch, and two for dinner would easily supply your child with their much needed five a day healthy eating.
How to eat healthy for a day
If you can eat healthy for just one day, you can do it for a lifetime. Teach your child how to do this, and hopefully it will continue on in their lifetime too. Plan out a list of healthy meals that you like, and you know your child likes, and stick to them. No inbetween snacks (the hardest problem to overcome at first). If you can keep this up, you will be shocked at how quickly you forget about inbetween-meal snacks, and notice changes in your mindset towards healthy food.
